What is the difference between Hemodialysis and Hemofiltration?
Hemofiltration is a medical procedure related to replace kidney function, for patients with acute (sudden) kidney (renal) failure (ARF). Hemofiltration is usually a slow procedure, over 10-12 hours, through a central venous catheter. Since hemofiltration is most often employed in critically ill patients, it is usually performed in an intensive care unit setting.
Hemodiafiltration is a combination of hemofiltration and more traditional dialysis.
