GFR Estimation Using Standardized Serum Cystatin C in Japan

Hemodialysis.com Author Interview:

Masaru Horio MD.

Hemodialysis.com Editor Marie Benz: What are the main findings of the study?

We made a new equation based on standardized cystatin C for Japanese.
Comparison with CKD-EPI cystatin C equation indicated that equations based on serum cystatin C could be used in patients with different races without modification.

Hemodialysis.com: Were any of the findings unexpected?

Nothing.

Hemodialysis.com: What should clinicians and patients take away from your report?

Equations based on serum cystatin C could be used in patients with different races or clinical conditions with variation of creatinine generation without modification.

Hemodialysis.com: What recommendations do you have for future research as a result of this study?

Validation of the accuracy of equations based on cystatin C in subjects with low or high muscle mass.
