The management of End Stage Renal Failure (ESRD) and Hemodialysis is a complicated and ongoing process requiring close adherence to a medical program. To maintain a relatively healthy lifestyle, ESRD patients must take multiple medications, adhere to a careful diet and attend not only frequent hemodialysis sessions, but see a variety of health care professionals on regular basis.
Patients with ESRD often have other medical issues, particularly heart disease, hypertension and diabetes, further complicating the medical regime. The inability to adhere to the prescribed medical routine and lifestyle can predispose to multiple complications.
The articles below discuss the medical and fiscal costs of non-compliance in hemodialysis, and some strategies for improving adherence to hemodialysis care and prescriptions.
